John Hewitt is the youngest son of James McIver and Edith Burrell Hewitt. He is a native of Toccoa, Georgia and a 1975 graduate of Stephens County High School. Hewitt received his bachelor of arts in journalism from the University of Georgia in 1980. He is currently chief operating officer of The Champion Newspaper in Decatur, Georgia and a recipient of numerous publishing and writing awards during his more than
40-year career in publishing.
Broken Wings: a brother left behind is the result of more than three years of research into the history of the Hewitt family and into the history of his father as a graduate of the U.S. Army's first Paratrooper School and the years that followed during which he was a trainer and jump instructor at Ft. Benning, Georgia; Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and
ultimately Camp Toccoa, Georgia.
